Valencia Schools

Valencia California Schools rank amongst the highest-rated schools in the state, with all schools reporting API scores above the state goal of 800 for 2009.

Valencia CA is located within the Santa Clarita Valley region of Los Angeles County. Valencia’s public schools are organized into elementary schools (grades K-6), junior high schools (grades 7-8) and high schools (grades 9-12). The elementary schools are lower-population neighborhood schools governed by either the Newhall School District or the Saugus Union School District. The junior high and high schools are more regional and are governed by the William S Hart Union High School District (Hart District).

All of the public schools in the Valencia CA area scored above the state’s Academic Performance Index (API) goal of 800 for 2009. API scores are calculated by converting a student’s performance on statewide assessments across multiple content areas into points. These points are then averaged across all students and all tests for their schools and district, resulting in the school’s or district’s API. API scores can range from 200 to 1000 with scores above 800 being the goal for all schools and districts. Schools with no API scores to report for 2009 are either newer public schools, or unrated private schools. The Hart District’s overall API score places it Number 1 in the state among union high school districts with 15,000 or more students.

High Schools and Junior High Schools

For 2009, high school and junior high school students within the William S Hart Unified School District returned to school for the Semester 1 on August 13. Winter break begins for these schools on December 18, and the students will return to school for Semester 2 on January 11.

Elementary Schools

For 2009, Elementary students within the Newhall School District returned to school for Semester 1 on August 19. Winter break begins for elementary schools within the Newhall School District on December 18, and the students will return to school for Semester 2 on January 8. Elementary students within the Saugus Union School District returned to school for the 2009 Semester 1 on August 12. Winter break for elementary schools within the Saugus Union School District will begin on December 21, and the students will return to school for Semester 2 on January 11.
